Open campus for university faculty "Let's look at other universities!
Introduction
In fiscal 2024, 11 private nursing colleges in Aichi Prefecture jointly organized the "Open Campus for University Teachers: Let's Look at Other Universities" as part of the regional activity project of the Japan Association of Private Nursing Colleges. The event was held on March 9, 2025 at the University of Human Environments and Sugiyama Jogakuen University. The purpose of this event was to exchange information and build a network among faculty members of member schools, and it provided a valuable opportunity to share practical knowledge from the field of education.
2. planning and management structure
Initially, representatives from 13 schools in the prefecture gathered to discuss the possibility of participation, and finally 11 schools participated in the planning and operation as collaborating schools. The secretariat was set up at one school, to which the MISHOP director belongs, and preparations were carried out through plenary sessions (three pre-event meetings and one post-event e-mail meeting) and the division of roles. Each project was assigned to a school in charge, and multiple planning meetings were held. Posters and information materials were sent to member schools in the Chubu region to promote the event.
Event Summary
The total number of participants was 75, including 2 from Gifu Prefecture, 1 from Shizuoka Prefecture, and 72 from Aichi Prefecture. In the morning, "Development of VR" and "Utilization of ChatGPT" were held at the University of Human Environments, and in the afternoon, "Electronic Medical Records for Education" and "Digitalization of Practice Records" were held at Sugiyama Jogakuen University. Both universities opened their facilities, teaching materials, and curricula to the public, and provided an opportunity to introduce the cooperating schools and exchange opinions at their exhibition booths. Charter buses were used for transportation, and boxed lunches were provided for those who requested them.
4. survey results (49 respondents / 65.3% collection rate)
While the VR materials were evaluated for their educational applications and usefulness of the experience, difficulties in their introduction were also pointed out.
In the utilization of ChatGPT, there was interest in the potential of AI and its application to education and research, indicating the need for continuous information sharing.
The exercise using the electronic medical record system was well received for its benefits to students and its learning environment that is similar to clinical practice, but the burden of creating teaching materials and operational issues were also raised.
The digitalization of practice records showed benefits in terms of efficiency as well as concerns about increased burden on teachers and instructors and changes in communication with students.
The exhibition booths showed the ingenuity of each university, but lack of time and uneven interest were issues.
The event as a whole was rated by many as a valuable opportunity to learn about the efforts of other universities and to contribute to improving the quality of education, and the consideration given to meals and transportation was also well received. There were also requests for more opportunities for exchange and for the event to be continued on a reduced scale.
5. summary and future issues
The event was meaningful as a forum for exchange and learning among faculty members, and the objectives of the event were generally achieved. One issue for the future is that the participants were limited to the three Tokai prefectures. It is necessary to consider the possibility of wider exchanges, including the influence of the timing and location of the event. We will continue to search for ways to continue and develop the connections that were established this time and promote activities that will contribute to improving the quality of education and strengthening cooperation among teachers.
